It's a rainy day, or any old day, and your children are stuck inside. Just when you think that the supply of store bought LEGOs, Barbie Dolls, Bratz Dolls, and Tonka Trucks will entertain your children for the entire day, you hear those three dreaded words come out of the mouth of your child "Mom! I'm bored!" You stop, think, and wonder what you could possibly give your child to do, that you haven't already done, you are looking for something new, different, and unique that you haven't done with your child. Then you remember Silly Putty, that fun to play with, smooth substance that you played with when you were little that was so much fun. You decide that you will end your child's boredom with Silly Putty. Don't run out to the store and buy a tiny little expensive colored plastic egg full of Silly Putty, instead, get your child involved, and let them make it themselves at home, for a fraction of the cost. They will have a good time making it, a great time playing with it, and you can use the opportunity to spend quality time with your child.
Silly Putty has many uses. You can bounce it. You can roll it. You can shape it. You can even press it up against your favorite comic strip so that the picture comes off on the Silly Putty, just like you would with the store bought stuff. You can do all of these things with store bought Silly Putty, but you can also do them with Silly Putty you make at home yourself. Here are some other cool things that you can do with home made Silly Putty.
Make it float: fill an 8 ounce glass with four ounces of room temperature tap water. Break Silly Putty into small pieces, and roll the pieces into small balls. Add 1 teaspoon of vinegar and 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the glass of water. Put the balls of Silly Putty in the water. Watch as the bubbles surround the Silly Putty and make it float, and when the bubbles separate from the Silly Putty, the Silly Putty sinks to the bottom of the glass. You may need to add an additional teaspoon of both vinegar and baking soda depending on how hard the water is in your area.
High bouncing Silly Putty: Silly Putty bounces when you roll it into a ball (the smoother the ball the higher it will bounce) and bounce it on a hard, smooth, flat surface. But did you know that Silly Putty will bounce higher when you put it in the freezer? Simply place your Silly Putty that has already been rolled into a ball into the freezer for one hour, and then try bouncing it. The Silly Putty ball will bounce higher,
