In today's "Anything goes" society, the lines are often blurred between right and wrong. This confusing state of reality makes successful relationships all the more hard to find. The question at hand, "Is cheating ever okay"? is one that can only be answered with an opinion. Here is mine.

When a person enters into a relationship they need to decide what issues they can compromise on and which ones are non-negotiable. For some, cheating is a problem that can be overcome with the help of a relationship counselor, friends insight or personal effort. For others however, it is the ultimate betrayal of trust to which there is no forgiveness or reconciliation.

I can only speak from my own personal experiences and those of friends whom I have seen dealing with cheating partners. When someone is cheated on they are left with feelings of insecurity wondering why they were not good enough to keep their lover faithful. Trust also comes into question, and concerns that the person will continue to cheat are present. I have in the past forgiven a cheating boyfriend. As a result he continued to cheat and was not afraid to admit it because I was so forgiving. I have since changed my standards. Cheating is non negotiable for me. In my current relationship with my boyfriend of 1 year, it would NEVER be okay for us to cheat on each other.

I do not believe that one can say it is definitely wrong or definately okay for someone to cheat. While I feel it is a lack of integrity and good morals to do so, human weakness can be taken into consideration. Each situation should be handled on an individual basis because no one answer applies to every relationship. Bottom line...you have to decide if cheating is acceptable for you or not.
