It's hair 101: LESS IS MORE! Remember products are concentrated and if you use too much you won't like the results. It is easier to start with less and add more then to start with more and try to take it away after the fact. LESS IS MORE when it comes to shampoos and conditioners! And ALWAYS remember your scalp is skin too!
Step one: THE SHAMPOO: Get your hair wet. Use a small amount- like a nickel or dime size- So start off first by gently emulsifying the shampoo in your hand and try to disperse the shampoo evenly, but also try not to start right above your forehead, try to start around your ears and move in circular motions around your head. Go ahead and give your scalp a massage. It's more then relaxing you, it's also stimulating the blood cells that help keep your scalp producing hair follicles and keeps your hair healthy! Try to massage for at least two minutes (like you brush your teeth)....massage away your stress and then rinse very well.
Step two: THE CONDITIONER: Again, you are starting with wet hair. Remember less is more, you probably need less then the size of an American quarter, depending on the length and texture of your hair. This time, begin to apply the conditioner from the ends up to your scalp- fine hair people- avoid the scalp entirely- and just put it up to about one inch from the scalp. Gently massage into the hair and let it absorb for about 2- 5 minutes. Again, rinse thoroughly.
Step three: TOWEL DRYING: OH MY! how cruel we can be to our hair cuticle! Trust me, just 'blot' it dry gently not to get it all snarled up and in tangles! Be gentle those hairs are each hanging by a follicle!
Step four: THE LEAVE IN CONDITIONER: Not for everybody, but for almost everybody! IT really comes down to a preference. But remember, everybody needs conditioner- so if you choose not to use one in the shower, it is recommended to leave one in! Again, it's very simple- start with less because you can always add more! The Leave-In Conditioner is either in a cream form or a spray form, if you choose to use both a cream and a spray, spray first and then gently massage the cream over top of the spray. By putting the cream second, you will also help to push the spray more evenly into the hair. Apply the leave in conditioner before you gently begin to comb the hair- for longer hair, start at the ends and work your way up the hair shaft to the scalp with a good hair brush. For long hair, try to brush it one hundred times!
