Imagine a show that combines Oprah Winfrey and Jerry Springer, but different than the both, with a twist. The result would be Dr. Phil. I enjoy Dr. Phil because he covers a lot of important issues. Dr. Phil wakes individuals up to reality. His show is more real than expected and definitely crosses into the reality concept. I have to admit, at first, I was amazingly skeptical about Dr. Phil. I thought of him as a pseudo psychologist who was putting on what I call an "act" and when I had heard he was going to have his own television show, I thought it was destined to fail. I had this instinct that Dr. Phil was not just a sneaky man, but a phony, looking for ways and means of exposing his pseudo analysis. I thought he was just an "act" and not someone who would be taken seriously by status quo society, let alone the talk show business world, however; I have come to realization that I was wrong and can admit that.
One day I was flipping channels and Dr. Phil was on television. At the time I was living in Pennsylvania, so it was channel 2. He was talking to a woman who was controlled by her husband. The show's primary subject was "men who control women" or something on that wavelength. Dr. Phil proceeded to tell this woman that if things aren't getting better, she should just let go. Well, as time proceeded and Dr. Phil sympathized on her situation, the man (the woman's husband) comes out on stage. Dr. Phil asks him something like "did you force her to do this" and the man was so rude (almost as if he was drunk) and proceeded to blur out "yes, I did and no one better have a problem" or something of the sort. Dr. Phil told this man off and my first thought was "What" because I never once expected Dr. Phil to be aggressive. I was really impressed after that because it made me realize, he is just a regular guy offering his insights and trying to prove a point to help people, as a result. One thing is certain, he definitely did do that.
Some (not all) celebrities or famous people hold back on what they truly think and are so fake, they don't want to say the wrong thing, as a result. Not Dr. Phil. Dr. Phil is different because he is a real person who has developed a common ground of society. He understands society on quite a few wavelengths and he isn't afraid to state his opinion on any issue, no matter what happens as a result. I love Dr. Phil and although I don't watch him much on television, I do when I have the opportunity.
