Paddling.net is a website that specializes in kayaking and canoing. Having done little of either of these activities, I wasn't expecting to stay long on this site, but I was pleasantly surprised. Although looking a little amateurish and home grown, there is a wealth of information to be found - sellers guides, articles and messages, and reviews. I even took a photo tour of Lighthouse Reef in Belize!
The message board is full of information, and gives the feeling of a friendly, welcoming kayaking/canoing community just waiting for me to join. It looks like Lake Michigan is the popular spot for new paddlers.
If getting out on the water appeals to you, check this website out. It's not all rough sport, and there would certainly be something for most people here.
