Well I suppose the fastest way to get rid of gray hair is to shave your head . Many guys look good like this and some females wear a shaved head well . However it is a bit drastic .

As I started seeing gray hairs , a few at a time , I began using a hair colour which would wash out over 6-8 washes . Then as more gray came I progressed to a semi-permanent colour . As you will have guessed I then moved on to a permanent colour . These don't wash out but after about 6 weeks your natural hair colour will grow through at the roots . Also in this time your dyed hair will have changed colour slightly with the shampooing etc .

Finally as a fifty something I am dyeing my hair blond as the roots do not show quite so much . I have highlights and lowlights added and this seems to hide the gray better .

Now I have read various articles which advise certain health tricks to help maintain your hair colour . Certain illnesses may make your hair gray prematurely . Kidney problems can do this . Higher levels of potassium can maintain natural colour but too much potassium is dangerous . Research any diet changes , in this case , well , before trying mineral supplements . Some people just have a genetic pre-disposition for gray hair .

To anyone younger my advice is ,think carefully before dyeing your hair . I wish I had not started dyeing mine to cover the gray . By now it would have been an even colour and I could have just had the odd silver or blonde tinted highlights . Yes I could ask my hairdresser about getting rid of the dye but it's a long and costly process .
