So whiskers left a present for you. For all you feline lovers, you know that cat urine is one of the hardest aromas to get rid of.

First lets see how bad the spot is. Did this soak through the carpet? You might have to pull up a corner to assess the padding or floor beneath. Carpet can be cleaned on the outside, but if it soaks through, this will be a continuing problem. You need to know how deep into the carpet the urine went. All the urine needs to be cleaned. Carpet, carpet pad and the floor beneath. If this is in the middle of your floor, you might be stuck with the gift that keeps giving; however, there are products out there that clean and neutralize orders.

One of the finest products I've found to clean cat urine is Orange D-Molish NI-712 by Neutron Industries. It is a "green" product that organically digest uric salts. This product will take out anything. It is also citrus based, which is a powerful order killing property.

One very important factor is once the area is cleaned, the tempting spot needs to be removed. There are several sprays on the market that repel animals from urination in the same spot. Keep in mind you have to create a perimeter around the area, not just spray the spot itself. I once just sprayed the urine spot only to have my cat start marking next to it. You need to really steer your pet away from the marking zone. I do not have a particular one I use, but do not buy a cheaper brand. The more expensive ones have less order to the human nose and will work better on your pet.

For those of us that don't catch that spot right away, there are order eliminating sprays on the market. Even if the area is cleaned, the aroma is harder to control. The important thing is, you don't want to cover up the smell. You want to neutralize it. Here I use NI-712 Natural Citrus Order Eliminator, also produced by Neutron Industries. This product can be sprayed directly on the urine spot to elimiate the order. I get a nice citrus smell that absorbs orders and leaves my house smelling fresh and clean.

One important note. If your beloved cat is having trouble with frequent spotting, consult your veterinarian. Spotting and strong urine smell are signs of bladder infection. I went through some very frustration weeks before Squeakers was diagnosed. It was a process, but I've got my happy little buddy back.
