Video games and children

I feel the impact of video games on our youth is to demanding. It's almost a symbol of money status in young children these days. Almost a who's who in society. you have to own the best be the best and know the most. Now don't get me wrong I realize there are a few benefits to video games such as teaching a child to obtain goals, cause and effect, and sometimes, some games, academics. But they also teach violence, anger, laziness. I can think of alot of better ways for children to spend their time. Such as Fishing, hunting, playing summer and winter sports, playing with pets, learning to cook, camping, swimming, dancing. These things are way more beneficial to a child and teach them some of the same things as video games. They teach competition, goals, life skills(there's one a video games doesn't teach, how to catch and prepare your own dinner!) constructive criticism, They help your child be active, responsible adults. I know most people believe it is the older generation that is against video games, but as a 29 year old I would have to say that is not always true. It does make me wonder though how the older generation in this world are so happy, have accomplished much in their lives and seemed to live longer. makes me wonder if sitting on your but all day zoned into a tv or other console ruining your eyes and living in a virtual world where some can't even find their way out long enough to realize there is a whole world going on right around them. Letting children an hour a day with an educational video game is in my opinion a good idea. but maybe next time have them read an adventure book for 1/2 hour. I feel that sometimes parents use video games as a babysitter. So many parents grow up not knowing anything about their children, take them to the park, teach them to bake, if you don't know how, go to a class together or have one of your favorite cooks teach you both at the same time. I think children need to learn the fundamentals of life before we throw them into the virtual, irrational, unrealistic world of video games, just because that's what everyone else is doing. I know the world is evolving but, I don't think our children are going to grow up in a world where video games teach them how to raise their own children and support them and feed them. It may however teach them that they get a little more quiet time when they let the video game babysit.
