Guide to Blu-ray Disc

blue ray optical disc are really high storage discs. Blue rays can hold 25 gigbytes(thats more than some old peoples computers). Blue ray disc can hold 35 times more than a average 700 mb cd's. THey get there name from the blue laser that writes the information on it. Blue rays are said to come out this year(2006).

There are many types of blue ray disc, the two main formats are single layer and dual layer capcity. The single can hold 23, 25, or 27 gigabytes on its 12 cm disk, and only 7.8 gigs on its 8 cm one. The dual layer disc can hold a crap load more. 46, 50 or even 54 gigs on its 12 cm disc and 15.6 gigs on its 8 cm ones.

The problem with blue ray disc were that they were recorded so close to the top surface of the disc that any scratch or dust could damage the data. They put a thing coat over it to protect it. THey later came out with a better disc that does not get affected externally as easily.

To use a blue ray disc you have two options currently buy a PS3( i like the xbox 360 personally) or buy blue ray disc drive. Kinda like a cd drive but can be used only for dvd and blue ray disc. THey have this one blue disc drive that will accept all current formats.
