Remembering Jingles

Ah for the love of a good, banal jingle.

"Plop, Plop, fizz,fizz, oh what a relief it is.." now that ditty for Alka Seltzer is a classic!

I write and sing jingles for a living so when it comes to looking at what is successful in this genre of advertising, you'll get my interest every time.

Let's try another: "Oh I want to be an Oscar Meyer wiener, that is what I truly want to be. Cause if I were an Oscar Meyer Weiner, everyone would be in love with me." I'll bet that song is going to be going through your head for the rest of the day, if not week! Admit it. You're singing about a HOT DOG!

This form of advertising probably goes back as far as cavemen banging sticks on rocks and touting they're latest brontosaurus burger recipe.

I know cavemen and dinosaurs didn't exist at the same time, but humor me. We're talking about singing about food and cars and upset tummy medications,. Isn't it great?

I once wrote a jingles for a fast food restaurant touting they're new salad bar and I thought I was going to be tarred and feathered and run from the Kansas town. I can still hear; "Super crunchin', great for munchin', gotta have a salad, a bigger, better salad, gotta have a Spangles salad now!" Oh Glory Days indeed.

There are always new good jingles coming our way and then there are those I hear and go, HUH? "I'm lovin' it" by McDonalds is the most recent like this, but they did unveil, "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun".

I'm going to give them a break because of that gem. Speaking of such don't "you deserve a break today"?
