The facts about domestic violence affecting women

Domestic violence is filled with devastating physical and emotional consequences for women. It can leave emotional as well as physical scars on a woman for a lifetime. The sad thing is it is done by someone that they typically trust and love.

We often think of domestic violence as a physical thing, but it can be emotional and verbal abuse. Which is often worse because those scars are harder to heal. Many women receive both forms of domestic violence and feel some what responsible so they feel ashamed of themselves for it.

In no way is it a woman's fault for her lover to treat her that way. He or she needs to be held accountable for their own actions! Even if the woman provoked them, they should be adult enough to walk away from the situation. There is no excuse for this sort of behavior.

Here are some facts about domestic violence ....

1. It affect women of all backgrounds, races, religions, education levels, rice, poor, it affects all sorts of women!

2. It is a widespread problem. Women all over the world suffer from domestic violence. Millions of women suffer from it every year.

3.Children in a home with domestic violence are at risk. The are put in harm's way if their home is filled with violence, you never know if the one creating the violence will turn on the children.

4. It is both physical and emotional or just one or the other.

5. It can be very hard for the receiver of the domestic violence to leave, they often feel trapped and don't know where to turn.

6. It can affect every aspect of a woman's life. She can feel very bad about herself and have very low self esteem.

No one should have to suffer from any act of violence. It is awful that someone they trust or have trusted in the past would physically and emotionally hurt them. It is a hard thing to over come and can make them have difficulties in ever trusting again. Just because the abuse stops or they may find the courage to leave the situation, it is going to be a part of them forever. There are several support groups that they can attend to help them through the process but it is damaging to a persons soul!
