definitely!
1. police should concentrate on class a drugs such as heroin, crack, cocaine, crystal meth and all the other substances which really and rapidly get people addicted and change their lives and health forever (to the negative) - and which, as a by-product, cause so many 'low' scale crimes such as robbery, mugging, burglary, theft, as well as some of the most horrendous violent crimes
2. cannabis - if smoked in moderation and without mixing it with tobacco (in which case you get all the negative health issues associated with nicotine and tar), is far healthier a means of escape from everyday stress than your two-three beers or glasses of wine after work
3. it has been proven in countries such as the netherlands that, if policed in a proper manner, the legalisation of cannbis works very well and does not, contrary to popular myth, lead to a higher number of people graduating from dope to harder drugs - the opposite is the case: because you can only smoke legally in establishments that require a certain age limit (same as bars, but coffee shops check better, generally, at least in Europe), and you are given very detailed information on the different effects of the varieties of cannabis available for purchase, you are a lot less likely to spend twice as much money on bad stuff from a dealer on the corner, hence, you have a better time, the state can control the use of the drug and police has time to worry about more important things - I'd say that's a winner allround
4. you'd also not have the amount of fights and crimes happening (again see Holland) on the streets after the bars close - drunk people wreak a hell of a lot of havoc every night, whereas I've never seen somebody stoned who'd even consider punching someone...
5. what they say about legalising = demystifying is true. of course, as a young adult, you will engage in smoking cannabis, maybe a little more if it's legalised because, same as with alcohol, your older friends can buy it for you, but the whole secrecy and special thing about 'doing drugs' would not apply to cannabis and therefore people in the main would just adopt a healthy attitude to it and be able to differentiate it and its effects from harder drugs.
