No funniest comedians list will ever be the same, even though everyone will probably agree on a few. Depending on the era you were born, the type of humor you prefer, the atmosphere you grew up in, and a few other personal eccentricities, you may disagree with this compilation. However, since this is merely a list, and not a full-on dissertation of the psychological science of comedy audiences, let's get started. Here are eight amazing comedians, in alphabetical order:
== Johnny Carson ==
Although he did not perform traditional stand-up comedy, the late great Carson's pre-show monologues and late-night skits were some of the best in the business. He had impeccable timing, a razor-sharp wit, and a subtlety that one rarely sees nowadays. Depending on the action, a simple look at the camera could cause a guffaw or outright laughter. He was also very unassuming, allowing his guests to take the spotlight as long as necessary.
== Bill Cosby ==
No one can tell a story like Cosby. Focusing mainly on family and other aspects of his own life, his stand-up material is hilariously direct without being obnoxious. Sprinkle in a few funny voices and microphone-assisted sound effects, with NO cursing, and you've got something wonderful. His sitcom was also well received, but I believe his stand-up comedy was more popular.
== Steve Martin ==
Martin is the thinking man's comedian, but he's also your everyday Average Joe. He can be completely straight-laced one minute, and then explode in an angry, surprised, desperate, or snide upheaval the next; He capitalizes on being a normal guy in abnormal situations. He's also multi-talented, as he can write, play banjo, and sing rather well.
== Jerry Seinfeld ==
Considered by many to be the ultimate observational comic, Seinfeld enjoys a massive following, either via his highly rated sitcom, or his successful stand-up career, or both. He asks questions about the most trivial of our everyday lives, and we know exactly what he is talking about. It's all in the details.
== Lily Tomlin ==
Her character sketches are outrageous. Like most other great comediennes, Tomlin is not afraid to give her characters the quirkiest, most foolish personalities. One also gets a sense that she truly enjoys what she does, but a mischievous smile now and then keeps her audience guessing. Who says women can't be funny?
== Robin Williams ==
With plenty of stand-up time, not to mention TV and film time under his
