The secrets of attraction

The movie "The Secret" is an infomercial. It is an infomercial because an entire line of products, such as books and seminars that you pay to take, are associated with the movie.

I encourage people to practice positive thinking. Your state of mind can have profound influences on your life and the lives of others. But these influences come mainly from the positive actions that you take when you are in that state of mind. The movie however gives the viewer the idea that you can conjure up material things simply by thinking about getting them.

What is sad about the movie is that, having acknowledged the power of positive thinking, it goes on to tell you that you can use that power to obtain material possessions. Expensive homes, wrist watches and lots of money can be yours if you envision having them. Not once does the movie talk about using the power of attraction to envision, and therefore help bring about, solutions to social, political and environmental problems. They don't do this because the people who made the movie are trying to get as many people as possible to buy the books and pay for the seminars. This is best accomplished by appealing to peoples greed.

Positive thinking should be encouraged. This movie however exploits it. It is another 'get rich quick' scheme where the only people that get rich quick are the ones that sell you the package.
