cases there is no correlation between the students that do college radio (usually the real music fans) and the students that plan the entertainment at colleges (people that want something to look good on their resume). This is important to remember because your doing good in one area most likely won't help in the other without your pushing for it. If you go after college radio slots go at them as hard as you would a major market station until you're put on regularly.
The combined assaults listed here should lead to you taking a whole campus by storm little by little through word of mouth. It's also important to remember that getting college radio play opens you up for becoming a member of a performance right organization SESAC, BMI, ASCAP and gigs builds up at least the number of people that are aware of you, which is really just what marketing is about-making people aware of you in hopes that they'll one day soon buy your merchandise. Although the payout won't be much in terms of publishing for radio, getting into
these groups helps to legitimize your band and gives you more access to be seen and heard through industry higher ups down the road. Why stop here though, why not diversify your entire music career portfolio. If you typically do clubs use your material that's more festival, state fair and coffee house friendly to get gigs there. Don't just go after a record contract, develop publishing roots, and local/ college radio campaigns and online campaigns. There's an endless amount of ways to diversify your career and maximize your overall levels of success at the same time.
