Photographing your baby

Everybody wants pictures of their baby and they change so fast, almost on a daily basis, that you cannot take your baby's photograph too often. However, taking a good picture of your baby can be easier said than done as it is almost impossible to get a baby to stay still long enough for a photograph.

Here are some ideas for creative baby photographs that you will treasure for years to come, and hopefully, when your little one is grown-up your photographs will not embarrass them too much.

When Your Baby Won't Pose for the Camera

Once your baby is at the rolling and crawling stage, experiment with taking pictures of him or her moving around. Use your camera to follow your baby instead of trying to get them to pose. Have your camera to hand while your baby is playing, sleeping or in the bath. In years to come you can enjoy looking back and seeing how cute your baby looked during normal daily activities.

Family Pictures

Take pictures of your baby with as many members of the family, and as many generations as you can. A keepsake album could include photographs of your baby with parents, grandparents and great-grandparents if he or she is lucky enough to have some. Don't forget brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts and cousins. Some great baby pictures also include the family pet.

First Times

A "first time" photo makes a wonderful memory. Baby's first steps, first tooth, first outing and, of course, first Christmas, Thanksgiving and Birthday. Take photographs of gift receiving and opening; baby eating their first holiday dinner; by the Christmas tree; getting a kiss from Grandma under the mistletoe.

Special Photographs

Occasionally, take the time to stage some special photographs of your baby. Dress them up in their best outfit and be creative with location and framing the photograph with scenery or props. Let your imagination run riot. Take as many pictures as you can on each occasion as many of them will not be perfect.

The photographs that you take of your baby will be a treasury of lasting memories that you can look back on all your life.
