Testimonies: Why I will not buy another Volkswagen

I too have felt the sting of Volkswagen, though I got to the hurt by a different route. First a little background...

A number of years ago, I purchased a used Kia. Kia was still young in the automotive world and as such I had huge issues with my car. After owning the car for about two years, maybe three I got into a car accident. It was a one person car accident. I was driving down the road in the far right lane. I was merging into the center lane to let the on ramp traffic onto the freeway. As I moved into the center lane, a HUGE SUV decided it needed to be right where I was. Since I had my kids in my little car, I deferred to the big guy and pulled back into the right lane. I over corrected and was going to hit the median, so like an idiot I pulled the car the other way, over correcting again. I lost control of the car, spun through three lanes of traffic, not hitting anyone and slammed the car into the cable barrier that was in the middle of the freeway. I purposely turned the car so that the driver's side front took the brunt of the hit. Again, keep in mind my two kids were in the back seat. After the front of the car hit, it slid around and the back passenger side hit the barrier. Shaken, but not hurt too badly, I climbed into the back seat to console my very scared, screaming children. As I was trying to assure them that they were okay, the top of the car collapsed on to us. The cable barrier had sliced through the very thin support beam on the back of the car. I knew then that if I had not forced the car to hit the driver's side first, my son's head would have been sheared off.

Never again would I let that happen. I vowed to find the most safe, best built car that I could afford. I looked at Jeep, I looked at Saab and I looked at Volkswagen. I was thrilled with the safety features, I loved the way the cars handled. I leased a 2001 Jetta. Just the base model, but the base model came with more features standard than other cars came with in their upgraded models. That car was put through heck. We drove it every where, I had very few problems with it and all were taken care of by the warranty.

In 2004 we were getting ready to move across country and my mileage on the Jetta was reaching the point that I was going to owe big bucks at the end of the lease if I didn't trade it in. So, I went down to the local dealership and found a new Jetta. I bought this Jetta, I wasn't going to have to worry about the mileage this time around. There were more issues
