The art of the handbag

Currently, I have about ten handbags. Included in my collection is a Burberry check tote, a tan DKNY tote, a petrol blue Oroton shoulder bag, a baby blue-grey Emporio Armani shoulder bag, a fuschia Escada tote, a mauve Nannini shoulder bag, a red Mimco messenger bag and a grey shearling-trimmed Jessica Simpson shoulder bag.

Apart from the Burberry, all the bags above are made of leather.

What can I say, I love them all!

Most of my bags are for work. I buy structed pieces with enough room for my wallet, coin purse, mobile and diary. I also prefer that there is a zipped pocket, a mobile phone pocket and a lip balm pocket inside the bag.

I consider all of my handbags to be works of art. I look at my petrol blue Oroton, and I admire the sleek line of its handles, the elegance of the metal rings connecting the handles to the body, the supple leather, the vibrant colour. It is beautiful in its simplicity. All this and it is functional as well!

When I look at my Burberry tote, my eyes caress its fine lines and the trademark Burberry check. It is a bit on the small side but I won't let it go as I think everyone should have a Burberry - it's recognisable, whenever I bring it out, someone makes a comment about it.

Then when I look at my red Mimco, I can't quite believe that I bought it. It's my first messenger bag in more than ten years. I saw it on a lady at my drycleaners and wanted it on the spot. It looked so comfortable on her and the leather was the most divine red I have ever seen on a bag. The style is called 'Cocoon' and it's rounded shape, held together in a drawstring fashion, is very comforting - and cocoon-y, I guess!

I've become very fussy - I only buy leather and the feel of it is paramount.

Yes, I love my bags and I enjoy using them. I like changing them weekly, and using a different bag on the weekends. I think my collection is at its optimum size. I don't think I could handle any more at the moment!
