If you ask the average person what is Kopi Luwak, chances are you will get a blank stare. Kopi Luwak is not for regular people. This coffee is made for celebrities and anyone rich enough to afford the cost and rich enough to think that animal poo tastes good.
If you want to live like a celebrity then you can consider Kopi Luwak the most expensive cup of coffee that you will ever have. Starbucks can?t hold a candle to this coffee. The fact that it is rare is one factor that makes this coffee so expensive. It is because it is rare that you will also not find it sold in 99% of coffee shops. If you ever head over to the Indonesian island of Sumatra you might be able to buy a cup, but you also have to be willing to pay $50 for each cup of Kopi Luwak coffee.
If you really want to pretend that you're rich, consider buying a larger quantity of Kopi Luwak. An unroasted pound of this coffee will cost you $110 or more wholesale. A bag of this rare and celebrity loved coffee can cost between $300 and $600 retail for each pound that you buy.
Kopi Luwak comes from a small marsupial called Asian Palm Civet. The Civet eats the coffee cherries and leaves the undigested portion in its feces which is harvested and used to make Kopi Luwak coffee. It is strange that people know where and how this coffee is made and yet they still flock to it.
