How to write a biography

horrified about the inaccuracies. She started researching all over and could later go back to her source with the truth. If she used it the way she found it she could have been in deep waters, as it were.

Deep waters, is a familiar habitat when dealing with biographical items, especially when the subject lies far back in history. It is not always possible to imagine living in those bygone days and being sure of the mode and measurement of peoples lives and inclinations then. Of course it helps to work through reading matter of the times in which you find yourself, biographically speaking. Not only non-fiction, but well written novels especially, would show the tenor of those unfamiliar times.

In the end it is necessary to make sure that one has a strong idea of what to leave in and what to keep out of such a biography. Nothing is as boring as a biography with unnecessary information that interests no one, and yet, if it is all about gossip and backbiting, it won't sell either. It seems, like with most good books; ability for well written language, an investigative spirit, and the power never to bore, would be the secret of balancing a biography on the head of a pin. Probably the most valuable item to remember while writing a biography; it's all a question of balance.
