How to start a bakery or a cookie business

Cookies and cakes are yummy. There are many different types of bakery or cookie businesses that you can start. The key is to know the business rules of your area and to be creative.

The majority of places will not allow you to start a bakery or cookie business from you home. You have to meet the FDA guidelines for your community. It is important to call around and find out what the requirements and the laws are regarding food prep and food selling. You don't want to sink a lot of money into a business to find out later that you can't sell anything from your house.

Another thing to consider is equipment. If you are going to be selling baked items and cookies you will need good equipment. You are going to need excellent ovens that have lots of space and cook evenly. You will need tons of bake ware items. Also needed will be several mixers, blenders and bread bakers.

Before starting the business make sure that you can get a small business loan to cover all the equipment. It is usually easiest to rent or purchase a business that already has bought all the equipment. Some that are going out of business will even have the ingredients and bake ware that you need. You might be able to get a package deal.

Find out the market need for the bakery or cookie business in your area. Make sure that you can offer a different angle and something unique to people.

Starting a bakery or cookie business can be very profitable. You might want to market smoothies or coffee with the business as a side item. Find out the FDA rules, the general business rules and bank loan requirements. Be creative and you should have great success.
