Poetry: Individuality

Check, Please

She's a star; an actress
you can tell by the way she feigns a
charming disposition to appeal to her public
when inside she's really just tired, frustrated, angry.

She's a star; a dancer
you can tell by her soft, graceful poise,
her supple movements as she waltzes her way
through eager crowds vying for her attention.

She's a star; a singer
you can tell by her bright, lilting voice when she
calls out to her public or when she is heard
humming a snappy tune to keep her spirits up.

She's a star; a dreamer
you can tell by the faraway look in her eyes and
the longing in her heart to someday find
herself in a different life, anywhere but here and now.

She's a star; a waitress
you can tell by her green check pad, her pink
and white-checked apron with big pockets and the
urgent way her spirit screams out to be a star.
