The key to staff retention your number one asset is understanding your workforce .Recent research out of Scandinavia suggests that a happy workforce is 20 % more productive which is beneficial to them your company and the country.
Take the time to discuss your employee's goals ,needs ,who they like to work with and what best suits there family .Even if all these can't be meet people feel heard and valued .Seek first to understand and then to be understood .
Encourage an environment where people feel secure. They are valued stakeholders in the company's future .Don't just talk the talk ,walk the walk .Reward ideas and let them know your side of the story .Be flexible with there work and home needs .Remember good people attract other good people.
As the work environment becomes more user friendly people will be proactive rather than reactive and productivity will improve along with safety.Understanding your needs and who best suits them is paramount .Human resources personal are great but must fully understand the skills required and the pit falls of the job .
Actions speak louder than words .I was working on a project and as the wet season kicked in and the boss brought us top of the range wet weather gear to keep after the job finished .The good will this showed and the results this helped achieve made for a very wise investment.Share some of the profits with the valuable assets that are out there helping to achieve them.
