Almost everyone knows where kopi luwak comes from. The name translate as coffee cat, and comes from the feces of a cat. It appeals to the little boy in men, and is to snicker atby those that don't eat out of toilets. But it is very expensive coffee, and considered a delicacy in many areas. The taste is said to be earthy and less bitter, because of the chemical change as it is partly digested.
The civet, which is thought be a type of cat (it's a cousin of the mongoose), eats coffee cherries, which sounds delicious, and then it craps the half eaten coffee out, and that it where it stops sounding delicious. People gather these things (and you thought you had a bad job) and wash the coffee beans lightly.
It makes you wonder, who ate this first? And did he win the bet? It is amazing PETA hasn't gotten involved, and complained about the use of the animals. Most of these are free range, so health nuts can go nuts. The civet, (that's the cat eats and leaves a fortune, although it's really a cousin of the mongoose) should be protected by animal lover groups. It is highly prized, and the coffee is worth a fortune. It won't take long for some genius to hunt these coffee loving pets and sell them in America, for cheap expensive coffee. Soon, they might be sold by coffee shops, by the coffee cups, plants, and now the civet. For your own coffee, just look in the litter box.
