Telemarketers are people too

I know it's irritating to receive phone calls from telemarketers, but you must understand that these people are just doing a job. I've heard people say, "then they should get another job and stop bothering people", but for some this the only job they can get or the quickest job they could get in order to pay their bills. I get irritated too when I get these calls, but I know the person that's calling is only doing what their job entails, so I try to let them know in a nice way that I'm not interested in their service, product or whatever they're calling for. Now, if they persist after one or two rebuttals I get a little stern with them. I am never rude to them nor do I just hang up on them. I just let them know I understand they are just doing their job, but I am really not interested.

I used to be a telemarketer, so I do understand a little more than most people what goes on, on the other side of the phone line. I hated those jobs, but they were the quickest jobs I could get until something else came around. I didn't like calling people interrupting their day, their dinner or their relax time. I also didn't like being abused by them. I mean people can be down right rude. I even had a guy call me stupid once. Of course I hung up on him, but you do what you have to do to survive.

People complain that people on welfare should get jobs and stop living off our tax dollars. Well, telemarketing is a job that keeps people off welfare and keeps them from living off our tax dollars. Telemarketing also keeps people from being homeless and from robbing other people for money. So you see telemarketing does more good then bad and the only bad it does is irritate people.

Might I suggest that when dealing with telemarketers, you sort of have to think of it in terms of your own job. You have a boss that tells you what to do and there are certain things you have to do within the jobs description. Well, it's the same way with the telemarketer, they have to do what their boss says and do what the job entails. Just try to be understanding and remember that the person you're talking to probably doesn't what to be doing this either.
