An example of a naturally focused, hypnobirthing friendly, minimal intervention hospital birth plan.

Please remember that it is your right to have your birth plan respected and by signing your birthplan and stating that it constitutes your informed consent to treatment as listed in the plan you can effectively ensure that your wishes are obeyed by hospital staff and the birth team.

No medical procedure will be allowed without my prior consent, or in the event of my incapacity, my partner's. I/We have not signed the general consent/admittance forms and consent only to treatment that has been fully explained and for which verbal or written consent has been given.

We are performing our own version of a hypnobirth and as such do not want any labor coaching whatsoever unless it is an emergency situation that we agree is an emergency. This includes no coaching of pushing. We also do not wish to have cervical progress announced if cervix checks are permitted as we have different ideas of achievement even though the cervix may not mirror that progress.

We wish to labor alone without an attendant present. Do not speak to me during contractions or when I appear to be concentrating on my labor. Questions may be addressed to my partner if urgent and only away from my hearing. There will be no students, hospital janitorial staff, or other non-essential personnel in the room during labor and birth.

No medications. This specifically includes oxytocics, analgesics, barbiturates, tranquillizers and antibiotics. If we feel a need arises, we will discuss our options.

No intravenous fluids unless I specifically give permission and feel that oral hydration has not been adequate.

No vaginal examinations without full explanation of desired result and express permission, and no artificial rupture of membranes. No stretching of cervix or sweeping of membranes either.

There will be no routine fetal monitoring, either internal or external.
Occasional listening to the fetal heart is expected. A Doppler may be used if desired. If there is medical indication for continuous monitoring, I may consent to a brief period of monitoring provided I am able to choose a position. The monitor is to be removed after a reasonable trace is obtained (Not more than 30 minutes without exception).

I am not to be offered pain relief and it is not to be discussed in my presence unless I specifically ask. I am already aware of my options.

I will not be confined to bed during labor. If the birth is happening away from
