History, to me, does not just concern the past. It can affect the present and the future. Learning from past historical events is not just about knowing the dates, and memorising what happened. There is so much more to history than what most people believe it to be.
Learning about the dates is just the first step in understanding the chronological order of events that happened in the past. What is more important, however, is knowing what the actions were taken by people of the past, and understanding the logic behind such words and actions. We can also reflect upon what history reveals about different cultures around the world, and understand why present events happened in this way.
History is not a dead subject. It is alive, always around us. History can never be boring, when we know how to appreciate the subject. Reading about history is interesting, when we dig deeper into the issues surrounding certain events, and we can even dig into the minds of great people of the past. From all these kind of historical sources, we will realise then that history has many faces. We may never know why events happened this way, or who was at fault during the wars, but we do understand that people have different points of views, and to disregard any point of view is a serious mistake as a historian.
