In-Home Health Care
How to Find the Right Provider for You!
Before setting out to find the right provider for you it is important to understand what an in-home health provider does and what you cn expect from them. In-home health care is seperate from and different to in-home home care though both may, in some instances, be provided by the same service provider. In-home health care providers offer nursing type assistance to people who are injured, ill, disabled, or frail-aged. They are not there to carry out the dusting, vacuuming and general cleaning duties.
The duties of an in-home health carer may include meal preparation, assistance with eating and clearing away the dishes after meals. Other duties may be more directly health related such as tending to intravenous drips, supervision of medication, dressing wounds and other such medical services. Health carers assist their client with walking, dressing, bathing, grooming, and other daily activivities directly related to the well-being of the client.
When seeking a provider of these services you need to have a clear idea of what you need and your own expectations. Make a list of all of the things you want and need. Be prepared to compromise on some of the wants but not on the needs.
Interview the service providers to ensure they will meet your needs and provide the service you are expecting. Shop around for the right service provider. Locate all of the service providers in your area and interview them all. It is unwise to simply take on the first provider you find.
Locating service providers can be as simple as using the telephone directory and asking friends and families for recommendations.
Be honest and upfront in your expectations and needs and if their cultural issues involved in the care, ie your religion does not permit a man to wash a woman and the client is a woman you can specify that female carers only may be hired.
It is important to understand that the service providers have more than the one or two in-home carers they will send to you at first. If you find a particular in-home care is not to your lliking or is not doing there job contact the service provider coordinator and discuss the problem immediately. Coordinators are there to see that you are receiving the care you need. If one carer is not working out another can beprovider. You are the client and have a right to recieve the care for which you pay your hard earned dollars.
Be fussy and expect the carers to meet the requirements of the job and communicate with the service provider.
