Vancouver - the city of bridges is in my opinion one of the most beautiful cities in Canada! There is so much to see and do in Vancouver!
Stanley Park is a huge must see! A bit of rainforest in the heart of the city! A main thoroughfare, which will take you over the spectacular Lions Gate Bridge divides this huge park into two sections, one just as beautiful as the other. You can rollerblade, bike, jog or walk along the seawall which goes around the perimeter of the park, and offers many spectacular views. Why not pick a nice spot and stop for a little picnic! But apart from the natural beauties and wonders of this grand park, there are also other places to visit there, including the Vancouver Aquarium, and several restaurants if picnicking is not your thing.
Gastown is another popular spot to check out while in Vancouver. Old world charm greets you as you stroll down the cobblestones. Street vendors selling their art and many interesting little shops and quaint restaurants are sure to have you oh-ing and ah-ing. Don't forget to check out the cool old steam clock, and have your picture taken with the statue of Gassy Jack! And a tradition in our family while in Gastown always includes stopping for dinner at the "Old Spaghetti Factory"! You get a great meal at an affordable price, and the spumoni ice cream that comes at the end of every meal is just scrumptious!
Like to shop? Make Robson Street a part of your visit then, with its eclectic assortment of shops and restaurants. Robson Street has been a major attraction for shoppers since the late 1800's.
Vancouver boasts the largest Chinatown in Canada, and it's another must see! I love to drive through the hustle and bustle of Chinatown, and see all the goods hanging in the windows!
Wanting the ultimate tan with no lines? Then bare it all at Vancouver's Wreck Beach - Canada's first and largest legal nude beach. But don't go there expecting to just gawk. There is certain etiquette that must be complied with while sunbathing visiting the beach. Please respect the privacy of the bare souls there, and ask before taking any pictures.
Grouse Mountain, just 15 minutes from downtown, offers skiing in the winter, and numerous forms of entertainment in the summer, including a lumberjack show, and much more, as well as a year round panoramic view of the city. A truly beautiful spot for a romantic dinner for two!
While visiting Vancouver, you may want to check out other nearby cities and towns as well. Victoria (the capital city of BC), which is a short (two hour or so) ferry ride from Vancouver is another beautiful city, and home to the famous Empress Hotel, and the stunningly beautiful Buchart Gardens. Whistler is about a two hour drive from Vancouver, and is world known for its skiing, and will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Vancouver has so much to see and do, that its impossible to fit it all into a quick answer here. Visit one of the many beautiful gardens, walk the Capilano suspension bridge, embark on a whale watching boat, There is something for everyone, and is truly breathtaking, where the majestic snow-capped coastal mountains meet the mighty pacific ocean. A good site to see more of what you can do and see while in Vancouver is http://www.tourismvancouver.co m/visitors. I did not take my knowledge from this site personally though... I'm from the glorious west coast of BC!
