How to decide what exercise class to do?

Deciding what studio based exercise class is good for you can be difficult sometimes. There are a lot of instructors out there who teach fitness and open dance classes in a lot of different styles. How do you decide which class is better for you?

Here are 5 things to help you in deciding what kind of class to do?

Can you follow the class easily?


Is the instructor helpful?
Is there a good atmosphere in the room?
Do you like the music in the class?
Do you feel relaxed in the class?

First you have to enjoy the class. Do you like the music? Does the age group fit you? Can you follow the instructor easily? Is the class well set out and does it cover everything you want to do? Of course a fitness or exercise class will be difficult to follow at the beginning but you should be able to practice the exercises and moves slowly enough to be able to copy the instructor.

If you find you are getting left behind and he or she never tells you the right way to do the exercise then maybe the class isn't for you. Most instructors will check in the mirror and come and correct you if you're not doing an exercise properly. Also if you don't do the exercises in the right way you may cause yourself an injury and this can really put you off.

Are the others in the class just doing the exercise to get fit and shape up like you or are they all in competition with you. Doing group exercise is one way to keep fit and it helps to give you encouragement and keep you motivated if there is a good atmosphere in the room and if the others doing the class are all trying like you and have a friendly personality. Do you feel put down or out of place? Then probably this isn't the class for you either.

Do you find you're listening to music you hate during the class? Music is very important in an exercise class and the kind of fitness you're doing. Liking the music can help you keep in time and also help you to relax so you don't always think about the exercise you're doing so much and just do it.

Exercising at the beginning can be hard work. You need to be coordinated, strong and flexible and it takes quite a lot of determination. Feeling relaxed in a class can help you to focus on what you're doing and improve faster.
