My tip for bringing up happy/confident children is:
1) Always think the best of your child.
2) Have open communication with your child about everything they are going through.
3) No matter how difficult it is, always listen. Sometimes a response isn't neccesary.
4) Don't be afraid to do the right thing. Kids need boundaries and guidelines. Sometimes they will put up a fuss that the guidelines are hard to follow, but with persistance it will become a habit. In the end, kids will tell you how valued they feel that you stuck up for their well being.
5) Lastly, give them your time and attention. It doesn't have to cost anything to spend time with your child. Taking a walk, riding bikes, reading a book or playing a game. This is the #1 need of all children is wanting to spend more time with their parents.
You are an important person in your child's life. Be encouraged that no matter how difficult being a parent is, you are the best parent in your child's eyes.
