First of all, I want to clarify that the software I am reviewing here is call PDFCreator by PDF Forge (http://www.pdfforge.org/). As indicated in the website "pdfforge.org is a site dedicated to our OpenSource projects that will help you in forging PDFs just as they are supposed to be."

OK, lets get started. PDFCreator does exactly what its name suggest, create PDF files from virtually any program. How it does this is by installing itself as a printer. So from any program you are using, all you need is to print the file/page and select PDFCreator as the "printer", and it will be "printed", or saved, into the PDF format.

I particularly like the fact that PDFCreator is light on resources and the processing of the file is very quick. PDFCreator has also been around for a while now and is very stable.

However, the downside is that the current version (0.9.3) has been unchanged since Aug 2006 and it currently does not support Windows Vista, while other similar (free) products have already updated their to support Windows Vista.

If you are running Vista, an alternative product is CutePDF Writer (http://www.cutepdf.com/Produc ts/CutePDF/writer.asp) which works like PDFCreator and fully supports Vista. Another product is PrimoPDF (http://www.primopdf.com/) which has an added function of ability to set security on the PDF file, like preventing it from been printed or copied.

Like PDFCreator, CutePDF and PrimoPDF are free to use for both personal and commercial. It has no ads, no pop ups and no watermarks.
