What students can learn from caged pets in the classroom

One of the most important lessons children can learn from a pet in the classroom is responsibility to others. When there is a pet in the classroom, that pet is dependent upon the children and the teacher to care for it and feed it. That is a big responsibility. This is a very important lesson for a child to learn. If they are responsible, they will be far more likely to grow into a productive adult that will be capable of taking responsibility for their own actions.

Children can also learn respect from an animal. They learn that they have to respect that animal and treat it well; they also learn that not doing so can cause problems and resentment from the animal. Children are also naturally curious, and having an animal in class will make them want to learn more about it. This can help in many ways. It can improve their attention in class; it can also improve their ability to read - after all, reading is one of the easiest ways to learn about something.

A pet in the classroom can also provide a source of amusement and entertainment during playtime and even nap time (in the younger grade levels). A child can happily watch an animal playing in its cage for hours. They can also learn from and about the animal by watching it.

Having an animal in class can also help the child learn how to take care of one, so that they can have a pet of their own. If they have never been exposed to taking care of an animal, this can be a problem. They don't realize how important it is that they feed, water, play with, and care for the animal every day if they have not been exposed to a pet before. As you can see, there are many things that children can learn from a caged pet in the classroom.
