THE OUTBACK IS CALLING
*
My friends and family they dont understand
why I love the outback and miss the bushland
they dont know why I love the wide open space
why a sparkle's in my eye and a smile's on my face
they see me in the suburbs hanging out in malls
and they dont know how the outback she calls
calling me back home to the australian outback
to once again wonder the dusty dirt track
On the radio I hear a familiar tune
and my eyes light up as I sing along
with a country western song
then my mind it wanders to the plains
and the bushland red and raw
and I am working in the outback once more
with a shovel and a crowbar and a fergie tractor too
I am diggin holes for fence posts under the sky so blue
and an eagle hawk it circles high and watches over me
as I eat my cornbeef and potatoes and drink my billy tea
then back to work and dig some holes
make the fence posts straight and tall
tamp the soil down good and firm
as an old man kangaroo is watching over all
On the radio I hear a familiar tune
and my eyes light up as I sing along
with a country western song
then my mind it wanders to the plains
and the bushland red and raw
and I am working in the outback once more
Sheep are bleating in the yards calling for their young
and all the hands are on deck for the shearing has begun
Bluies in the sheep yards pushing the sheep up
the tar boy's at the ready for the shearers slip up
the Rousie's pick up the fleece and toss it on the bench
the classers are classing their all wanting lunch
and the Cocky stands watching waiting for the bell
the shearers are all cursin and wishing him to hell
On the radio I hear a familiar tune
and my eyes light up as I sing along
with a country western song
then my mind it wanders to the plains
and the bushland red and raw
and I am working in the outback once more
