Most powerful superheroes

OK, I have had tons of arguments with my friends over who is really the strongest Superhero or Supervillain in comic universe. It started with saying the strongest was Spider-Man, but I had to disagree. Sure Spider-Man is awesome and one of my all time favorites. Yeah, Spidey is incredibly strong and can sense danger moments before it happens allowing him to avoid the danger almost every time. But in any case he's far from the strongest Superhero.

Next came the argument about Galactis. For those of you who may not know, Galactis devours planets in short. And with that reason alone a few had to argue that "with that much power how can anyone be a match for him?" I take it none of them paid attention to any of the Silver Surfer comics. But then the discussion would take a turn to state that Magneto could crush Galactis' head, but yet there has been no confirmation to me that Galactis' helmet is any type of metal.
Now as for Magneto. Powerful? Of course. Intelligent? Duh, his best friend was Professor Xavier. But, is he the strongest? Not by a long shot. Sure he can control every type of metal and create magnetic fields, but is that really enough to grant him the strongest being in comics? I don't think so, although he is on my top 5 of comic favorites.
Professor Xavier. Truly one of the most powerful beings in the comic universe. If he chooses, he can force someone to kill themselves (but we all know he wouldn't do that) or make them do what ever he wants. There have been arguments that he could possibly be #1 on the list of most powerful Superheroes/villains. But can he control my #1, Superman? Hard to say, but I say no.
Superman has the most rounded powers. Flight, super strength, heat vision, x-ray vision, ice breath and super speed. What more could you want from a Superhero? How about the leader of a team of Superheroes? Oh, wait a second. He is... Justice League anyone? Sure he may share the board of directors (as I call them) with Batman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter to name a few. But the argument goes can Xavier penetrate Kal'el's mind? After all he is an alien and maybe that just might be a good enough reason to put him as the strongest Superhero... What? Doomsday?
Sure Doomsday killed Superman. But seriously after a fight going on for that long, it could have went either way. But DC needed to kill Superman in order to renew him. In my opinion, Marvel should have done the same to Spider-Man instead of just creating "Ultimate Spider-Man".
But as it stands, I still have to say Superman is the strongest Superhero. But there is still speculation on whether Xavier could take out Superman with lifting a finger. I personally would put Professor Charles Xavier at #2 on this list if I had to make one.
