My husband and I recently had the chance to flee (literally!) from our current workplace to catch our breath from our busy lifestyle and take a brief vacation. It was a toss between travelling to China or Scotland (UK) knowing that I'm the history buff and my husband being more of a wildlife and the great outdoors kind. So after having a LOST season 1 marathon over the weekend with our friends, we decided quickly based on the facts and figures of least chances in becoming a statistic. Thus, began our journey to Glasgow. We stayed in Glasgow for about three weeks, visiting Culzean, Stirling, Edinborough and then moved to this nice cozy town to the north called "Perth", stayed here for another ten days in a hotel until we decided that we just had to get an apartment here for the next six months till the end of our vacations. Perth is beyond beautiful, beyond green and beyond what I can conceive of a more beautiful place to live in, it's like Walt Disney took a tour down here before giving those lush green sweeps in the background in his magic fairy tale animations. Perth has it all, the enigma of a city dating back to 1300's and the allure most of us have lost living in big cities. It has River Tay passing through it which happens to be the narrowest part of Tay so the bridge could be made across it a few centuries ago. On either sides are green mountains which are mostly crowned by heavy Grey clouds even if it's sunny in the city.... yes at first we were amazed by the weather here too. It has sun, rain and wind all at the same time, quiet a wonder one should not miss.
As for the history which is equally entwined with mysteries some written off by historian and some far too unnatural to be explained. Nonetheless the curious nature of us humans give wind to such a habit thus the ideology of "tourism" came into being. The marked gargoyles at the corners of some streets and buildings which traced back to it's Scottish roots dating back to the era of James the VI.
People who might be a little interested in British literature would be amused to know that the mention of Perth has been present in Shakespeare's play in both King Lear and the infamous Macbeth. As for architecture buffs Scone Palace is of great significance and the fair maid's lady which is marked as the oldest house present in perth. As far wildlife goes, I've never seen a more naturally beautiful site where geese, ducks, seagulls, sparrows and wild rabbits all live in harmony along the other side of tay (accessible through the bridge). It's like watching real life Heidi everyday. Have I mentioned the people of perth yet? As are scottish known for their warmth and hospatality, so are the people of Perth, probably a wee bit more but a delight to run into in the middle of the street or to stop and ask for directions.
We awake every morning thinking, by today we would cover every corner of this town but it's mystic depth supersedes us. It's a must-see place but an even more exquisitely amazing place to live.
