Black Xmas, is a remake of a cult classic from the 1970's. A lot of us have seen the orignal on late night cable or maybe you saw it one summer a long time ago. It is a tale of a child driven mad by his mother and step father. In the time of his adolesence he kills them both and is sent to a phsch ward to live out the rest of his years. He later escapes to return to his home, which is now a sorority house. This movie is the base for a lot of the horror classics that we see today. From Holloween, to Friday the 13th, this was kind of the original. The remake doesn't play up the suspense of the original and tries to make up for it in theatrics and gore. This is why so many american horror films are no longer scarry and just gross. Fear comes from suspense and not knowing what will happen next. You as the viewer need to feel a sense fo forbodding, not oh look he pulled out some ones eyes again. Movies such as this would do better if they didn't show the same kind of gore over and over and let things build more. In short the movie is very gory but not as scarry as the original. In fact I don't remember being scarred at all. Not even a good cat jumping from a half open closet gag. It was more of a tongue and cheek slash at slasher films if you will.
