For many individuals, young and old, distance learning can be the ideal way to expand your skills portfolio and learn something new. With the large range of subjects available you can choose to study a course to help you achieve a career goal, or alternatively learn something new for fun.
Distance learning is perfect for adults because you are studying in your own time and at your own pace. You do not have to worry about fitting in formal classes but you still need to be organised enough to complete the assignments which are required. Obviously this is more a factor if you are studying for a formal qualification.
Distance learning can take a number of formats. Most distance learning courses are postal courses where you enrol and receive a pack of materials and details of how to complete assignments or register for your exams. In this case you are allocated a tutor who will mark and assignments and your formal coursework if required. Most tutors are available on the phone and via email to offer advice and support.
Online learning is also a feature of some courses, meaning that you can complete and submit assignments and discuss topics with other students. This can really expand your thinking but is not available through all organisations.
The key factor to distance learning is the ability to work at your own pace studying a wide range of subjects at various levels. By working at your own pace you can complete units as quickly or slowly as you like, you can study the topics in which ever order you like and submit assignments (if needed) as and when you want to.
Distance learning is an ideal way to develop your skills knowledge and also a way of meeting new people with the same interests as you. An active mind is also good for your physical well being
