right but we won't assume right one-hundred percent of the time. Not only is assuming the mother of all screw ups but you could be treading on dangerous ground. So, don't assume. If they're talking about hanging out at a gay bar or same-sex relationships, just politely ask if they're gay or not.
There's no harm in it. We tend to assume because it's easy and convenient. If they're gay, then ok, move on. If they're not gay, then ok, and move on. The most common stereotype about homosexuality is that if a person's gay that s/he will come onto you in an instant. But I'm going to have to dispel that myth. If you're a guy, it doesn't automatically mean a gay guy is going to hit on you. Same with females. There are rare cases where the gay person doesn't care if you're straight. It's those rare cases that tend to bring a lot of persecution to the gay community with severe consequences.
We really can't one-hundred percent tell if a person is gay or not. Only thing you can do is ask. It'll clear up a lot of air.
I have a friend who's married with a wife. He took up a night job as a bouncer for a gay bar. From what he told me, it was very nice. That's from a straight guy's perspective. It shows that you can't neccessarily tell if a guy is gay if he's talking about gay bars.
If you're gay, then you're gay. Nothing complicated about it. If you're a female and attracted to females, you're gay. If you're a male and you're attracted to other males, then you're gay. If you're attracted to both, you're bi-sexual. Samantha from Sex in the City quoted in one episode "I'm a try-sexual, I'll try anything once."
Nothing wrong with being gay. The people that preach that being gay is wrong are people that want to use religion to ascend themselves into power. So just ignore those people. I have plenty of gay friends that are both masculine and feminine. Same with my bisexual friends.
Don't know how simplify it anymore. If you like people of the same gender, that's proof enough that you're gay. If you think someone is gay, don't assume, just quietly ask them. And for the love of all is holy, don't go asking in an area where people can get an earfull. If the person tells you s/he is gay and wants you to keep it a secret for the time being, don't be a jerk and blurt it out.
Basically, if a guy takes on feminine qualities, it doesn't mean that he's gay. Same with a girl taking on masculine qualities, it doesn't mean that she's gay.
Finally if you're gay, accept it. Don't ever let anyone think that being gay is wrong. Actually, before the spread of religions like Christianity, it said that homosexuality was the purest love. In the Feudal Era of Japan, it said that same-sex relationships tended to be more noble than heterosexual relationships.
