It is a fact that some countries are warm and others are cold while some countries are dry while others experience lots of rain. In Ireland however, it can be hot, cold, wet and dry all in the space of a couple of hours. It's one of the old country phrases that typical Irish weather is like all four seasons in one day. Belive me, it's true!
On a serious note though, it all depends what you come to Ireland for. If you intend travelling around and sightseeing then any time from May untill mid September is probably the time for you. It remains relatively dry and can get quite warm. Also, one of the things I love is that during the summer in Ireland it stays bright until late in the evening which is perfect when it is warm and balmy and you don't want to retire to bed just yet. Summer is pretty good for everything you might want to do. It does get a little busy due to the sheer numbers of tourists in some places around the country. So if you are coming on a serious sightseeing expedition and you don't mind wet socks and damp sweaters then March untill May is a pretty good time. Things won't be as busy and, in a way, you get to see Ireland as the locals see it for much of the year!
If you are coming to sample the nightlife then it really doesn't matter what time of the year you arrive because that never relly changes. Staying indoors is a hobby for many Irish people during the winter months and especially when indoors is in the pub. If it is not the weather that you are worried then you good time your visit around various festivals which go on around the country. Again, summer is the best time for this. There are literally hundreds of festivals in every County of Ireland over the summer months. Other festivals would be St. Patricks Day which is the 17th of March. This is an interesting time in Ireland because, believe it or not, it is not the big deal it is made out to be. It is still good fun though and there is much time spent in the pub!
A great time to come to Ireland and especially to Cork is the October Bank Holiday weekend which is the last weekend in October. This is the weekend of the Cork International Jazz Festival, a world renowned celebration of jazz. Artists from everywhere flock to the city and the place is abuzz with music and revelry.
