Assessing instant coffee

Being the only coffee drinker in the house, and only drinking one cup in the morning and evening, I naturally gravitated towards instant coffee, and drank it for many years. I had to find a good, rich, dark roast and then used 3 heaping teaspoons full to get the strength I desired. I used an electric tea kettle, so I could have a steaming cup o' joe in no time.
My entire attraction to instant coffee, though, was the ease with which I could make a cup of coffee, with no pot to clean up afterwards. I much prefer the strength and flavor of good, brewed coffee. Then one day about a year ago I found a small, single-serving filter holder that sits on top of a coffee mug. I also discovered that they make little filters the same size. Now I use this setup with my old electric tea kettle and I can have a fresh brewed cup of coffee in the time it used to take me with instant. Life is good!
