I know that there are many people who don't agree with me, but I have my reasons as to why I think The Doors are the best band ever. The Doors hit the scene in the 60s in the midst of the hippie revolution. Of course, like almost all other bands around during that time, their songs are influenced by acid and marijuana. I think that this is why I enjoy it so much. Their words and thoughts are so abstract that it is absolutely astounding. Jim Morrison was a film maker and a poet before he was a musician and he has an eye for what the world needs to see. He was an amazing artist..he made it seem as though he had the answers to everything and just wanted to show us. I respect him more so for his poetry, and many of his poems from his books were transformed into some of The Doors' better known songs. When I listen to The Doors it's like I'm listening to lyrical poetry..it has depth to it, you can feel it run through you. I just close my eyes and the music will move and sway me. Ray Manzarek on keyboard is just mind-blowing! Especially in "Light my Fire" and "Riders on the Storm"..all i can say is wow! His playing changed my world. It is a shame, however, that The Doors didn't last very long. I think that if they had, though, they would have turned into a joke. Half of what makes them mysterious and amazing is that we didn't get to see as much of them as we would have wanted. I'm still going to be amazed but what they did make and love them for it because they're my favorite band.
