The hunt was almost over. It had been a long day and he was tired but he had to provide for the others. He hunched down and waited. Watching the jungle alive with everything he could ever need. Plenty of water, plenty to eat and it was all his. He had his family here. They had lived here for generations and he knew this part of the jungle like no one else did. He was a strong leader and protected everyone. He could provide food for his family and was not challenged by his enemies. They had learned to stay away from him, because he protected what was his to the death. Usually it was their death if they dared to disrupt his home life.
He focused his attention back to the hunt. There they were. They stood together now but in a few minutes he would scatter them and then take out the weakest with almost no effort.
He pounced and the herd scattered. At first they tired to stay together but he was an expert at working out the weakest of them. Soon he had his prey in sight. The chase was only minutes in time and his hunger for the kill pushed him on. He made the final close and felt his teeth sink deep into it's flesh. His prey fought hard to live but the law of the jungle won out. Blood spilled through the air and then covered the ground around them. One last pull and it was over. He stood for a moment over his prize and waited for his heart to return to normal. He loved the taste of blood from a fresh kill. His family would eat tonight, but first he would eat his fill.
Now his family was tearing at the gift. Pieces of flesh hanging from their teeth as they filled their own need. He was at peace now. This was his jungle. And now... the lion sleeps tonight!
