Common cruise ship amenities

If you have never had the pleasure of experiencing a vacation aboard a cruise ship, and are considering purchasing tickets to do so, you may be wondering what the hype is all about. Although activities will vary depending on the cruise line and ship itself, most cruises offer some of the same common amenities.

When deciding whether or not to purchase tickets aboard a cruise ship, you may want to consider the cabins they have available. Most ships will offer choices from inside cabins, standard cabins with windows facing the open water, balcony view rooms, and even suites. Inside cabins are not recommended for individuals who are claustrophobic as they have no windows to the exterior and these windows are often replaced with mirrors to enhance confined spaces. Regardless, most if not all cabins are cleaned daily by maid services; however, guests will often be required to pay a gratuity upon their departure.

Other than various accommodations, most cruise ships also offer large dining halls or restaurants for guests. While sometimes dinner is scheduled during one of two shifts in the main dining hall, many ships will also offer a promenade deck equipped with various cuisines for individuals with differing tastes. Finer dining is also an option aboard many ships, which offer name restaurants that are typically not included in "all-inclusive" packages and require payment.

Dining halls may also be equipped with a stage for dinner shows and other theatrical performances, or a separate theatre may be available in some cases. Fortunately, guests are usually not limited to shows for entertainment. Some other fun common amenities also include pool areas, which are also often accompanied by Jacuzzis and/or shallow water wading pools which are undeniably safer for children.

Fortunately, children and teenagers will usually have the ability to spend some time away from their parents. Most ships will ensure that day care services are available for younger children so their parents can adequately enjoy themselves and relax during their stays aboard; however, teenagers who are too old for day care will also benefit from arcades (which are commonly include on board) or a plethora of other activities.

Night clubs and dance halls are also often available for guests. While some of these "clubs" require individuals to be of a certain age before entering, including those that serve alcoholic beverages; some of these dance halls are all-ages and allow teenagers to dance the night away with
