Until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious."
- George Orwell, 1984, Book 1, Chapter 7
September 11 came like a mad train wreck to the American conscience. The shock and awe created that day seared deeply into the hearts and minds of all American people. Reshaping the great American psyche, bringing fear and vast anger, leaving the soul of the country bleeding and exposed. And for one fleeting moment the world felt our pain and loss. The savage horror of death, never seen on such a vile scale, propelled humanity into darker waters than anything this generation has known. As Bush stood on the rubble of the WTC complex proclaiming revenge and punishment, the world knew a new wind of change was in the forecast, and the world of yesterday would never be the same.
By crowning himself a "war" president Bush waged a war that will be debated by scholars years after his presidency has ended. A war for the information age, fought in deception and unholy secrecy, fed by strict control of information. An information war, where the lines of liberty and freedom have been blurred, the savage truth of modern warfare. This war was built on foundations of lies and division of the people, fueled by the poisonous venom of corporate mass media, milking the hollow shell of conservative values.
Bush unleashed the death rattle on the nation of Iraq on what many have called faulty intelligence, old and outdated information, presented to the world in neat packages of lies and distortions. The ugliness rolled on and on like some viral disease, as some have said fear is contagious. Hitler knew this best: keeping the people in a constant state of fear leaves them isolated and confused, easier to control and shape into the perfect tool for support. Blinded by the American scapegoat of politics, the rancid angel of death spread its wings across the landscape of the middle east. Bush's war rolls on, selling fear like the product of some cheap New Orleans pimp, fueled by yellow journalism and the big brother tactics of newspeak, double think, in a hellish Orwellian nightmare. The fear machine rolls twenty four hours a day now, without delay and without end, in a whirlwind of disinformation that would make Joseph Goebbels proud. The beast has found his niche and curled up to warm himself in the American conscience, stealing all thoughts of the free thinkers.
No president in history has had this much power granted to him.
