don't we grow the plant and harvest the seeds for food and oils, flower buds for patients with pain, stress, anxiety and other ailments... harvest the liquid of the plant to be converted into alcohol fuel to run our cars... and use the rest of the plant to make the latest fashion? We would, except that those industries would be threatened. There's no other reason not to.
Those industries are safe though, because they've got enough money and lobbyists to pass laws and propaganda demonizing marijuana as a "gateway drug" (even though alcohol is far worse) and suppressing information about its benefits and those of hemp. Hemp seeds for nutrition and oil are starting to take off regardless, but still very slowly here in the United States. By allowing these companies to be so effective with their lobbyists, all we're doing is allowing our economy to remain crippled, and losing out on the vast benefits we could be reaping.
There's other uses?
Too many to blog about. If you want to do a little research yourself, take a look at http://www.hemptrade.ca/en/pub lic/about-hemp.ihtml because Canada is smarter than the USA in this regard. Or take a look at some of these:

By all means, do your own research. You might just be disgusted at what you find.
