What are a few huge industries in our country's history?
Oil.
Cotton.
And of course, the all-encompassing... Pharmaceuticals.
What do all three of these industries have in common? They're all standing in the way of hemp (& marijuana).
Hemp is one of the best cash-crops on earth. Thats why these industries use their power to keep it restrained.
What does oil have to do with it? Well, we're currently trying to figure out what we could grow in vast amounts that could be stripped of certain chemical compounds that would be converted into alcohol for an alternative fuel source. There's a reason that marijuana smokers call it "weed." It started with the marijuana growers calling it weed, because it acts like one. Its grows ridiculously fast in nearly any climate. There's your source of plant material for fuel, and its considered a "green" crop. That is to say, that it is good for the fields and the environment, rather than being harmful or depleting the soil's minerals.
What does cotton have to do with it? What has cotton been used for since the start of this country? Nearly everything. For instance, cloth. We're talking about clothing, blankets, furniture, etc. Just think about how many things are "100% Cotton." Well, guess what hemp is... process it right, and its just like cotton, but softer and stronger. It makes wonderful cloth. Right now its expensive only because its not mass-produced like cotton has been for hundreds of years. Its such a good material, that instead of 'wearing out' it tends to get softer but retain its strength.
What do pharmaceuticals have to do with it? If you want cannabinoids, just take a look at hemp's distant cousin, marijuana. A very mild psychoactive sedative with a whole multitude of uses in the treatment of mental ailments and pain. You could take a marijuana pill of totally natural and fairly potent THC, OR a concoction of processed chemicals that offset your brain chemistry and usually have such high side-effects that you take other chemicals to deal with the side effects, other chemicals to deal with the side effects from those, and so on until you discover that you're far worse off than you began. You can throw out the argument of it being a 'gateway drug' because I've seen far more people's lives screwed up on prescription drugs, leading them to illegal narcotics without ever using marijuana.
Whats more, is that only the flower bud of the marijuana plant is potent enough to be really viable as a source of THC. So you might ask, why
