Iguazu falls is deep in the jungle right at the junction of three South American countries. Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay are the three countries.
If you have never been to Iguazu Falls you would absolutely love it. Higher than Niagra Falls and much wider overall it is a spectacular natural wonder.
In order to get to the Falls we had to fly into a relatively remote airport that is basically there just for the tourists to use. And maybe a few drug runners.
When we flew into the airport we were riding in an old prop plane and pilot wanted to give us a view of the falls from the air. Which was great but we could see lightning in the distance past the Falls which dampened our enthusiasm. But I'm sure the pilot would not get paid extra if we didn't see the Falls and so he flew us over them.
By the time he circled back to land we were in the middle of the thunderstorm. The rain was pelting the windows and the wind was howling as we touched down and bounced and bounced again and after the fifth bounce the pilot kept us on the gorund and we made it. One of people on the plane was a businessman who had flown tens of thousands of flights in his career, and he told us all that was by far the worst landing he had ever experienced.
The Falls were fantastic the next day in the morning sunshine. You can walk along a path right down and almost into the Falls, as the path ends up as a wooden walkway that extends out over the river. Spectacular, and you can take a helicopter ride right over the Falls if you dare. The hotel there is actually very good also. They offer you night trips to various places in the three countries, again if you dare.
When we left the next day we all had a great laugh at the airport. It was pouring rain again as we waited in the Terminal to go to the plane. There was a plane not 20 feet from us and we were going to board it but one of the workers stopped us and said it was not our plane. A bus finally came and we boarded it and the drive proceeded to take us in a half mile circle and deposit us right at the plane we were all originally going to board.
When we all stopped laughing the bus driver said in his broken English that he wouldn't get paid if he didn't drive us to the plane!
