ADDING TO HELIUM
I often wonder what new members think is appropriate to add to Helium. It's a growing site, though without giving reflection to the type of articles we add to the site, are we doing the site which offers us the opportunity to write articles justice ? I think not. Take a look at what the site is trying to achieve, and by understanding this balance, be a part of something that could potentially be huge on the Internet, i.e. A source of information.
Channels
There are so many channels to choose from, and if you want to add to the database, you have no further to look than what interests you and what drives you to the passion to write. The site is evolving, and are getting rid of substandard articles. We have all seen them in all the channels throughout the site, but we need to grow with the site, and learn that substandard really isn't the way to go. If you set aside an evening to look through the different front pages of channels, you may be surprised at what you find, as each area of each channel has it's own front page. By looking at the ones that interest you, you can find areas that are poorly covered, and add your information to the database.
Unsuitable
The kind of articles that really are unsuited to a site like Helium are those that don't actually say anything. You may wonder where I am going with this, though there are many people with opinions that haven't yet learned the art of writing opinions. There is a section of the forum where you can get help if you feel you may need it, and the staff and members work hard to try and help you choose the right kind of submission standards for your writing.
Take for example personal relationships, which apply to us all. If you write about Aunt Ethel and her broken leg, how useful is that information ? It could be extremely useful though that really depends upon the manner in which it is presented. It may be interesting to you that Aunt Ethel slipped over and broke her leg, but how interesting is it to readers without some moral or help within the article. Think how useful it would be to go through the process of her injury, the treatment she got, and how she recovered. Do you see the difference ?
Similarly with personal reflections of life, these can be such a valuable source of information for those looking for information, though only if they are written in such a manner that they inform.
Adding to Helium.
Each one of us has valuable information within us that we can share. You may have an experience of a website, know about music, dance, theater or may have read a book that caught your imagination. You may be deep into philosophy, or something more practical like gardening, cooking or household repairs. All of us have a story to tell, though the main emphasis must really be on INFORMATION and adding to the Helium balloon, in an effort to rise the site and make it more informative.
The more people that write and give their KNOWLEDGE, the better and more reliable the site will become. Helium offers us a chance to make the site a great one. All we have to do is take up the challenge, write our hearts out on things that matter to us and that add to the database of knowledge.
Do search the site before writing, as often the categories are there but just waiting for YOU to fill them with informative articles.
Good luck with your writing.
