At the end of 2006, the auto manufacturers with the most new vehicle registrations were:
1. Ford (2,457,735 registrations)
2. Chevrolet (2,433,807 registrations)
3. Toyota (2,214,375 registrations)
4. Honda (1,308,558 registrations)
5. Dodge (1,805,294 registrations)
The average age of passenger cars on the road in 2006 was 9.2 years. The average age of light trucks and trucks on the road in 2006 was 6.8 and 6.9 years respectively.
The percentage of total cars and trucks that were scrapped in 2006 was 5.0 percent.
It is estimated that the number of registered vehicles in the U.S.A. is increasing by several million annually.
